RECENT PHISHING SCAMS
Recently it has been reported that several customers have received phone calls from a technician claiming to be from Microsoft or QuickHeal.net(FastHeal.net). The caller tries to scare the customer by pointing out possible issues with Microsoft Windows and then will offer to help the customer solve these errors. In the conversation the scammer tries to eventually connect to the user's computer remotely and take control of the computer to "just clean the errors" but eventually asks for bank details.
This is a telephone call scam where the caller is trying to extract credit card details along with the password and other sensitive information of the customer.
The caller is NOT from Microsoft or any other legitimate company as these types of companies DO NOT make cold calls to customers.
Users should not follow any instructions given by unknown technical support persons who call without you initiating the call. We also recommend that you do not give any credit card details or bank details over phone or online chat.
If you have experienced this or any other potential scam and are unsure, please take your computer to be checked at a reputable computer shop and notify your financial institutions.
